The Change the World Fund
The highest perfection of society is found in the union of order and anarchy.
Pierre Joseph Proudhon
Every now and then something happens that fills me with a sense of infinite possibility, like the letter I received from a fellow in Maryland with a check for my book, and twenty five dollars to advance the utopian cause of my choice. My first inclination was to return the twenty five dollars with my apologies. I hadn't the foggiest notion of how to advance the utopian cause. Then I decided that since I say we must get off our butts and do something, it was time for me to do something. Right now my something is this Change the World Fund. I asked my Maryland correspondent for his email address and permission to use his name on this site. He never replied.
If a million people (not a huge number in Internet terms) each contribute five bucks, it not only buys lots of hardware or whatever, it exposes the big problem. How do a million people decide anything on line? We also collide with the problem of trust. I may be an internet scam artist enriching myself at your expense. On the other hand, maybe I'm honest. Would that change your perception of human possibility?
A woman named Christine-her email address was xtine. She used the x as in xmas, sent fifty dollars(48.25 after paypal took its cut) Her email address doesn't work anymore. I have no idea how to contact her. As of today-April 28, 2006 the fund's balance is $273.25, $25.00 from the guy in Maryland; 48.25 from Xtine; and $200.00 from me to start the bank account past the point of a monthly service charge. Should you contribute, I will list your name, if that's OK with you, and keep a running balance on this page. If enough people join, we might be surprised by what we can do.
Contributions to the fund are NOT tax deductible. Since at present I am the only voter, I choose to attempt political, not charitable, changes. Since the intent is to create an egalitarian, non-hierarchical, effort, my single vote may not carry the day when others are involved.
Send your contribution to "Change the World Fund" c/o Edward F. Kunin, PO Box 1555, Fairfield, CT., 06825. Include your email address. Perhaps we can get a mail list going to discuss whatever strikes our fancy. If we want change, we have to figure out a way to make it happen. We can't look to Congress for anything but more of the same.
What fails to kill me makes me only stronger
